Founded in 1995 the Huddersfield Geology Group is a group of amateur geologists, many of whom have enjoyed studying the subject at evening classes in the area, and are enthusiastic about finding out more about the geology of the Yorkshire Pennines. The talks are generally informal and we welcome anyone with an interest in rocks and landscapes, amateur or professional. The group's aims are to promote an understanding of rocks and landscapes in the Huddersfield area and to produce information for general interest and teaching materials in schools and colleges. We meet on the first or second Monday in each month at Greenhead
College in the centre of Huddersfield. See our
Talks Programme. We also arrange
Field Events both locally and further afield. The Group has close links with the West Yorkshire RIGS (Regionally Important Geological Sites) Group and is involved in producing leaflets and information boards for local sites of interest. In 1998 the group received the Lasmo Geological Challenge Award for its book "Rocks and Landscapes of Huddersfield". For more information about this book see our Publications section.
